MAR CC-18

MAR CC-18 is formulated specifically for copper foil cleaning and conditioning hole wall which is an integral step in the copper metallization process.

MAR CC-18 conditions the hole-wall which during the activation step with a palladium tin catalyst complex will seed the epoxy and glass to form a minute seed which will assist in the final formation of a tight dense copper grain structure. This cleaner conditioner contains conditioning agents, which activate glass fibers and epoxy, allowing for a reliable absorption of the catalyst.

MAR CC-18 has been formulated so it can be easily rinsed from the copper surface with cold water.

Advantages of the MAR CC-18 process include:
  • complete and uniform resin and glass coverage
  • reduced incidence of blow-holes during soldering
  • superior electroless adhesion
  • reduces probability for hole-wall pull away
SOLUTION MAKE-UP
CC-18 2 – 5%
DI Water 95 – 98%
SOLUTION MAINTENANCE

Normal operation and replenishments are accomplished by addition of 300 mls of MAR CC-18 concentrate per 1000 surface square feet processed. Bath should be replaced when 500 surface square feet are processed per gallon.

The bath should be replaced after 75 surface square meters per litre have been processed.

OPERATING PARAMETERS
Optimum Range
MAR CC-18 Concentration 3% 2 – 5%
Temperature 55°C 55 - 60°C
Time 5 minutes 4 - 6 minutes

***ANALYSIS SHOULD BE PERFORMED 3 TIMES DAILY***

EQUIPMENT
Tanks: Polypropylene, HD Polyethylene, PVC
Heaters: Teflon, Teflon coated SS, Quartz
Ventilation: Required.
Filtration Recommended. Continuous filtration through a 10 micron polypro filter tube is advisable at 3 to 4tank volume turnovers per hour.
Agitation: Recommended: Work rod agitation to maximize movement of solution through holes. Mild air is necessary.
Vibration: Recommended for small hole and high aspect ratio boards.
ANALYSIS OF MAR CC-18
  1. Reagents Required
    1. 0.1N Hydrochloric acid
    2. Phenolphthalein Indicator
    3. 25 ml pipette
    4. 50 ml Burette
    5. 250 ml Erlenmeyer flask
  2. Method
    1. Pipette 25 ml. of the working bath into the Erlenmeyer flask.
    2. Add 50 ml of de-ionized water and 2-3 drops of Phenolphthalein indicator.
    3. Titrate the solution with 0.1 N acid; the color will change from purple to light blue
  3. Calculations
    1. % Concentration of MAR CC-18 = (ml of Acid) x (Normality of Acid) x 1.2

    Range 2 – 5 % BV
