MAR CHROME PRO HS

MAR CHROME PRO HS is a specially formulated High Speed Functional Chromium electroplating process which is fluoride free. The high-speed capabilities are a function of the chemistry design, which allows higher current efficiencies. The system has the capability of processing at much higher current densities as compared to conventional systems, which do not use secondary catalysts. The increase in the deposition rate is a result of the increase in the current efficiency.

The MAR CHROME PRO HS system, unlike the conventional mixed fluoride catalyst systems, does not cause cathodic low current density etching.

The electroplated deposits from the MAR CHROME PRO HS system exhibit very shiny, bright and smooth surfaces. The micro-hardness of the deposit shows values in the 1,000 KHN100 range, with a micro-cracked count greater than 1,000 cracks per linear inch providing superior corrosion resistance. With these characteristics, there is a very noticeable increase in the wear performance of this deposit.

The MAR CHROME PRO HS plating system is maintained with a liquid additive which eliminate dusting and splash back from solid additions. The system consistency can be maintained using an amp-hour control system. Standard pretreatment cycles, anodes and equipment can be used as those in any hexavalent chromium plating systems.

Plating Solution Make-up and Conversions

Existing Chromium Solution Conversion

Most chromium plating solution can be converted to the MAR CHROME PRO HS. An analysis of the impurities must be done to determine the level of metallic contamination prior to conversion. Fluoride type of systems can not be converted to the MAR CHROME PRO ELITE.

New Plating Solution Make-up

A new make-up can be accomplished by two methods. The first method is MAR CHROME PRO HS MU-L which is a liquid form. The second method is using the MAR CHROME PRO HS MU-S which is a solid make-up containing chromic acid and the appropriate catalyst quantity.

Using MAR CHROME PRO ELITE MU-L

  1. For each 100 Litres of plating solution: 50 litres of MAR CHROME PRO HS MU-L
  2. For each 100 USG of plating solution: 50 USG of MAR CHROME PRO HS MU-L

Dilute to volume with DI water.

Using MAR CHROME PRO HS MU-S

Add DI water to ½ the volume

  1. For each 100 litres of plating solution: 24 Kg of MAR CHROME PRO HS MU-S
  2. For each 100 USG of plating solution: 208 Lbs. of MAR CHROME PRO HS MU-S

Add the remainder of the water to correct volume.

PLATING SOULTION MAINTENANCE

The MAR CHROME PRO HS plating solution can be maintained using the liquid MAR CHROME PRO HS RL or the solid MAR CHROME PRO HS RS. Both systems contain Chromic Acid and the secondary catalyst. The sulphate catalyst is maintained by analysis and adjustments are made with Sulphuric Acid or Barium Carbonate.

The liquid MAR CHROME PRO HS RL contains 450 g/l of Chromic Acid and the secondary catalyst. Additions can be made at a rate of 350 ml per 1,000 amp-hours using an amp-hour controller with a feeder pump.

The solid MAR CHROME PRO HS RS contains the Chromic Acid and the secondary catalyst and can be added to the plating solution at a rate of 15 KG per 100,000 amp-hours or by analysis of the Chromic Acid in the plating solution.
